Dutch News: Police Cuts in The Netherlands

A leak at the Ministry of the Interior

A confidential report leaked stating that Interior Minister Guusje ter Horst wants to reduce the intake of aspiring policemen (Dutch). The policemen are necessary to keep the police force up to strength as many older cops are starting to retire in two years. The plan is supposed to achieve an cut of 190 million euros on the yearly police budget.

Opposition enraged

Opposition parties such as the Freedom Party (PVV) and the Socialist Party (SP) voiced their outrage about the plans.

Planned reduction in Crime endangered

One of the goals of the government is to reduce crime by 25 percent. Mayors and police chiefs of towns and cities warn that crime figure will show a significant impact due to the cuts.
