Dutch economy contracts, vacancies drop

Gross Domestic Product (GDP)

Dutch GDP recorded the biggest drop since the Second World War. According to a quarterly report by the Dutch Statistics Office (CBS) Dutch GDP dropped by 2.8% in Q1 2009 compared to Q4 2008. This last quarter of 2008 saw negative growth, as well. On an annual basis Dutch GDP fell by a whopping 4.5 percent.

The number of vacancies fell to 152,000, a 50,000 drop. The Netherlands has a 7.83 million labour force. Unemployment is now at 4.4 percent of the Labour force.
